The benefits of blueberry consumption
Due the high contents of antioxidants, blueberries should not miss from daily consumption, regardless whether they are eaten fresh, frozen or in tea. Blueberries have the highest antioxidant potential of all fruits. They contain a significant quantity of vitamin C and of the Group B vitamins, therefore they have anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, anti-diabetic effect. They also act as a real shield against cancer. Blueberry is the fruit with the most obvious effect on glucose metabolism, by having high contents of myrtillin. Myrtillin is a ”vegetal insulin” that decreases the glucose concentration in blood and therefore improving the functioning of the pancreas. Blueberry consumption helps with weight loss diets because it contains low calories. Eating blueberries regularly reduces the risk of cardiovascular conditions and prevents or reduces symptomatic urinary infections. Chewing blueberries helps with the relief of milk thrush. Phenolic acid in blueberries has an anti-inflammatory effect in the colon.
Blueberries boost the immunity system. Recent studies show that eating blueberries frequently keeps the brain healthy, preventing the occurrence of Alzheimer’s disease and improving the cognitive function. When consumed daily they significantly boost memory. A Harvard Medicine University study made on 27000 women, shows the effect of blueberry consumption on joint and muscles disorders. According to this study, blueberries are some of the best anti-rheumatic agents. Blueberries keep the eyes healthy by stimulating the regeneration of the retina cells thus improving visual acuity. Recent studies recommend blueberry consumption for the beneficial effects to the bones – it prevents and fights osteoporosis. Blueberries are a good disinfectant of biliary tracts, consequently useful for biliary insufficiency.
